My Favorite Apps for Wellness

With technology constantly in the palm of our hands and the amount of negative feedback it can generate, I’d like to focus on the use of technology to help us meet our goals for wellbeing. I have no affiliation or sponsorship from any of these apps, they’re just the ones I find most useful and enjoy.

  1. Daylio

Daylio is a comprehensive journaling app great for people that might be new to or reluctant to start journaling. It asks you how your day was, gives you options of emoji faces to choose, and lets you click through customized activities. You also have room to write or even add media to your posts. Daylio compiles your data and allows you to see it in a variety of useful charts. I recommend it for all of my clients as a tool that can guide our therapy sessions.

Cost: Free for basic, $2.99/mo or $28.33 annually for Premium

  2. Finch

Finch is a habit-builder and self-care app for children, but I’m hooked on it! The finch app gives you an adorable baby bird that you take care of by completing your personal daily goals. When you check off the activities you’ve set for the day, you power up your Finch to go on adventures and learn. Complete with a tree house and cute outfits, there’s a lot to customize in addition to your goals and routines. It also includes mental health first aid and lots of prompts for journaling. I personally use it every day.

Cost: Free for basic, $39.99/year for Finch Plus

  3. Fabulous

The Fabulous app is a grown-up version on Finch, allowing you to set daily goals and check them off as you complete them. It gives you reminders to complete your goals, and there’s lots of flexibility in the goals you set. Additionally, there are challenge that it suggests for you to participate in. Fabulous also offers live coaching (a premium feature).

Cost: Free for basic, $39.99 annually for Premium

  4. Breathwrk

Breathwrk is a simple app for guided breathing. It offers different patterns of breath for relaxation or getting more energized. I really enjoy how it changes the vibrations on my phone for inhale and exhale so that I can keep my eyes closed while doing it.

Cost: Free for basic, $7.99/mo. or $76.99/yr. for Pro

    Find out more at breathwrk.com.

  5. Fitbit

The main thing I love my Fitbit app for is sleep tracking. I’ve noticed a big increase in my awareness of my sleep habits and love getting the data on my sleep. This, of course, requires a Fitbit device, but the Fitbit app will still track your steps without a device. I do like using it for step counting and other wellness features in addition to sleep.

Cost: Free for basic, $9.99/mo. or $79.99/yr. for Premium, + devices starting at ~$60 (like this one on Amazon)

    Find out more at fitbit.com.

  6. Tody

I’m still getting used to the Tody app as it was only recently recommended to me, but it’ showing great promise so far! It’s a great way to organize your household cleaning tasks and build a great routine. I really love how it gamifies task completion with racing “Dusty”—your dirty-wad competitor. And for a little “hack” someone told me that they create a custom “room” for other self care and use custom tasks for non-cleaning-related self-care!

Cost: Free for basic, $9.99/year. or $17.99/year for Duo (2 participants), $29.99/year for Family (6), and $59.99 for a Team of 12 users

    Find out more at todyapp.com.

Those are my favorite picks, I would love to learn about what apps you use for your productivity and wellness.
